Andy Guhl

Andy Guhl (*1953, St. Gallen, Switzerland) is a pioneer sound artist and one of the fathers of European electronic experimental music. As part of the music formation Voice Crack and Poire_Z he has strongly influenced multiple generations of musicians and artists of the international underground and noise movements. With over 30 released albums as well as performances and exhibitions in over 20 countries Andy Guhl continues his prolific artistic production despite a widely publicized split from partner Norbert Moslang in 2002.

Andy Guhl started his career in 1972 in improvisational free jazz together with Norbert Moslang. In 1983 they started “cracking” daily electronics and developed it to the “cracked everyday electronics”. By manipulating these objects to produce sounds, they broke down the traditional barrier between daily items and musical instruments and their acoustic perception. In the 1990s the duo expanded their reach into visual representation of acoustic phenomena with several installations, including the “Sound Shifting” installation they presented at the Venice Biennial 2001 upon invitation of the Swiss Art Council. Since 2002 Andy Guhl has branched out on his own with ever more innovative installations using audio-visual feedback in analogue electronic systems – which he calls “The Instrument”, the expanded cracked everyday electronics. “For me physics is a musical building block,” says Andy Guhl, “to allow you to also see what you’re hearing.”

lendormin

Cristiano (drums, home-made electronics, objects, live electronics) and Marco (guitar, electronics, objects) started to play as “Lendormin” in 2001 as an improvisation-duet, dedicated to spontaneous composition: decomposing rock, dada incursions, noise architecture and soundtrack for imaginary movies. Lendormin is always open to collaboration with various artists and to explore the possibilities of superseding genre because labels and definitions means nothing for the listening ear: they are means of music repression. This led us to work with artists coming from different experiences like DBPIT, Ian Mclachlan, Renato Ciunfrini, Claudio Parodi, Luca Miti, Larsen Lombriki, Len Massey, Sean Bonney, Esther Leslie, Ben Watson, Mikaele Pellegrino, Toni Hiroshima, T.H.F. Drenching & Sonic Pleasures, Helena Velena, Ken Ueno. Lendormin performed in Italy and Europe: at the avant-rock festival Newton in Latina, at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, at the Bonnington Centre and at the Royal College of Art in London, at the dark-noise festival Modulor in Recanati and at “Ubusettete” in Rome. They did some shows on “Resonance” radio in London hosted by Out To Lunch.

since June of 2005, Waterland Kwanyin is the first open plate for experimental, improvised musicians and sound artists who live or transiently in Beijing. as the idea from KwanYin Records, it offers opportunities for artists from different background who now (or in the future) be into free music, e.g. abstract and spiritual sound, field recording mix, noise, electroacoustic, sonic explore, as well visual art, body performance, etc.
