Lawrence English,来自澳大利亚的声音艺术家/媒体艺术家
Lawrence English is writer, composer and media artist based in Brisbane,
Australia. Working across a broad range of art forms, English1s work is
eclectic and characterises a long-term exploration of various themes - most
recently audio/visual environments seen in his work Ghost Towns.

For over a decade, English1s audio works have sprawled over a range of
areas. Sonically the work calls into question the established relationships
of sounds - from experimental soundscapes and free improvisation to
processed beat works and concréte-influenced compositions - his back
catalogue spans a dynamic range of frameworks. London1s Time Out referred to
his output as Oambient twisted soundscapes and challenging sonic scree1, and
U.S. sound journal, Signal To Noise described English1s work as
Oextraordinarily gorgeous modern music concréte1.

Diversity of practice is again the case with English1s visual and poly-media
works. The most recent 3-screen video installation Ghost Towns, seeks to
create an abstract Ovirtual map1 of remote spaces, examining the micro and
macro aspects of the environments with equal vigour. Previous works
including the large-form temporal sculpture OField1 and his curated
OGravities Of Sound1 exhibition in Singapore, explore the ways in which
media can refresh and transform public spaces.

Outside of his recording and art commissions, Lawrence English curates a
number of ongoing sound events including fabrique at Brisbane Powerhouse and
syncretism at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts. He co-produces
a number of national festivals including Liquid Architecture and continues
to curate numerous art exhibitions (including Melatonin - Meditations On
Sound In Sleep, which is touring internationally until 2006). His imprint
and multi-arts organisation ::ROOM40:: continues to issue releases from an
eclectic array artists.
